I snagged this watch a few weeks ago from eBay for around 60 bucks. Since then I’ve seen it pop up on a few blogs, most notably over on A Fresh Take in one of his great posts Rainy Sunday.
My search for a pilot’s watch started unexpectedly. Jon Moy of gettingbeatlikeyoustolesomething was looking for a cheap watch to wear on an upcoming trip to China and asked for some advice (not specifically from me) on a good cheap watch for the road. When I think cheap and unique, I always start my quest on eBay. Found this one and just had to make the purchase. Only problem with the watch when it arrived, was the band. Though it may indeed be the authentic style sought by re-enactors of the WWII era, it just wasn’t doing it for me. I picked up the canvas band from J. Crew the other day and found it to be the perfect compliment to the watch. Just feels right wearing green canvas. All my nice watches have taken the summer off and have let this pilots watch run its course…it might even run through 2010.

All I did was replace the crappy “leather” band they sent with it.
It’s a reproduction so its brand new…made to look vintage for people who do reenactments I guess…all in all not bad for aub 100 dollar watch.

Amazing finds… Great refurbish… The green band compliments the watch even better for some reason. I think what it did was bring the color of the face out more b/c it was almost monotone boring with the matching band…

what a find! i personally like the older brown leather strap better, but if you can do both…. then why not! =)
Fantastic refurb! I really like those bands from J.Crew. I’m definitely going to check out eBay later today to see if I can’t get a great deal like this…
